FAQ – aka Questions We Get All the Time (and Don’t Mind Answering… mostly)
When will your online shop be back?
We’re aiming for an October comeback. That’s right – a full glow-up. Sign up to our newsletter and you’ll be the first to know when the sauce hits the shelves.
Are all your products made in the UK?
Yup. Everything is proudly made, jarred, packed, and sauced-up right here in the UK. No nonsense.
Why do some of your items have a shorter expiry date?
Because we make our stuff fresh – no weird preservatives or artificial bits. Our kaya and chilli sauces are the real deal, made the old-school way. They’ve passed proper shelf-life testing and comply with UK and EU food laws. Basically: keep them cool and eat them soon. You won’t regret it.
Do I need to refrigerate Mei Mei sauces?
Before opening: cool, dry cupboard. After opening: straight into the fridge. Use within 2 weeks (but let’s be real – it won’t last that long).
Can I freeze your food?
Yes, but don’t be a hero – don’t put glass jars in the freezer. Transfer it into a freezer-safe container first. Our meal kits and sauces are freezable for up to a month. Once thawed, eat within 24 hours (and yes, “eat” means enjoy every bite).
Do your products contain allergens?
We make everything in a kitchen that handles allergens, so we can’t guarantee it’s 100% allergen-free. All allergens are clearly listed in bold caps on our labels and product pages. If you're unsure, drop us an email – we take food safety seriously (even if we don’t take ourselves too seriously).
Is Mei Mei still open?
YES! We’re still slinging kaya toast, chicken rice, and all your faves at Borough Market. Come hungry. We do hot food, cold drinks, and takeaway. Check our opening hours here.
Where exactly is Mei Mei in Borough Market?
We’re tucked into the heart of the market – right next to Arabica and Brindisa retail. Look for Rochester Walk, wander past Ginger Pig, and follow the smell of grilled char siu. You’ll find us.
Can I drive to Borough Market?
Technically, yes – but parking is a bit of a jungle. There’s no customer car park at the market itself, and standard council restrictions apply. Also, no bikes allowed inside the market for customer safety (sorry, fixie crew).
Do you deliver hot food?
Not at the moment. You’ll have to come to us for that juicy chicken rice. Worth it.
Do you cater events?
Not right now – but never say never. Watch this space.
